Viewer of the Year transmitted on ITV 1 on Saturday December 30th at 9pm. Presented by Kate Thornton, the live entertainment show was the climax of a nationwide search to find the one person in the UK who knew the most about the TV of 2006.
The top fifty TV brains took part in the quiz where they were tested on absolutely everything about the television of the year. This included soaps, entertainment, sport, drama, news and events. The fifty were eventually whittled down to the two best players who battled it out in a dramatic finale. The eventual winner walked away with £50,000, a state of the art home entertainment system and the title Viewer of the Year 2006.
The show also featured special celebrity guests who’d had a significant year on British TV, including Jason Donovan, Myleene Klass, the Royle Family’s Ricky Tomlinson, Celebrity Big Brother winner Chantelle Houghton and TV soap villain of the year: Coronation Street’s David Platt – actor Jack P. Shepherd.
The show also included phone in competitions where viewers could call in to win the latest home entertainment systems.
Over 200,000 people phoned in for the competitions running through the programme.
Viewing audience of 3.1 million.
