TERRY BATE (Chairman) is a media industry veteran, both in Britain and Canada. Born in Cheshire, he was educated near Horsham, Sussex at Christ’s Hospital. After flying with the Royal Air Force for five years he moved to Canada where he worked first as a writer and broadcaster in television and radio before moving into management.

After returning to the UK in the mid-60’s he took management control of Radio Caroline for its final two years of operation and turned losses into profits. In 1971 he partnered with Beaverbrook Newspapers and founded a commercial radio management consultancy company. This company formed the group which became Radio Clyde. He was also a founder member of Swansea Sound, Metro Radio (Newcastle), Radio Trent (Nottingham), Pennine Radio (Bradford). and Radio City (Liverpool) He was also a director of Capital Radio (London).

During the 1970’s and 80’s Terry was the owner of the largest radio and sales management company, Broadcast Marketing Services Ltd., and had stakes in several commercial radio stations. In 1993 he launched Radio Calypso on the Mediterranean island of Gozo using transmitters in Malta. He sold his interests in this station in 1996 and in the same year acquired a 26% interest in The Television Corporation plc becoming Chief Executive and then Executive Chairman. Terry resigned from The Television Corporation in 2004 after having been responsible for a number of major acquisitions including independent programme production company Mentorn Barraclough Carey.

His latest venture was the launch of Multiplus Ltd., a 64 channel DTTV operation in Malta in 2004, which was sold to Maltacom, the telecommunications company in 2007.
